Me and my house...
We have this thing going on... Since I find myself living a “Repurposed” life (my replacement word for “retirement”), I seem to have a lot of time for researching techy gadgets on Amazon. My latest find? WiFi outlets! So...what does that look like? Well... these little round gizmos plug into an outlet which connect to my WiFi network in the house. Then I plug various fixtures and appliances into the hubs and voila... they listen to my commands...
Turn on bedroom lamps...
Turn on bedroom fan...
Turn on fireplace...
Turn on porch lights...
Play iHeart radio...
Turn down thermostat 2 degrees...
Now... I get a little carried away...
Going around the house shouting orders at all my appliances. But hey... if I have a house willing to listen to me, it’s imperative I speak. I will let you know there is still one lamp in the living room unwilling to listen to me. it’s not being obstinate... my wife asked me to leave one lamp in the house she can turn on with a switch... how boring...
I recently read something...
In a book which took me to the internet to confirm. Did you know the average individual has 1,200 self-talk thought words per minute? And unfortunately, only about 100 of those words are positive. Which leaves us, on an average, with 1,100 words we say to ourselves every minute which are negative. If we set aside 8 hours per day to sleep, we have the potential, in the remaining 16 hours… or 960 minutes… to speak over 1 million negative words to ourselves each and every day.
It’s no wonder...
God has instructed us in the book of Joshua, “this book of the law shall not depart from your mouth (speak the word out loud), but you shall meditate on it day and night (think the Word in your mind), so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it (act upon what you speak and think from the Word); for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success” (Joshua 1:8).
We also find in 2 Corinthians, “we are to destroy speculations and every lofty thing that raises up against the knowledge of God, and we are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5) God’s power is released by our thoughts and by the words we speak. Are you listening to His Word and allowing His words to flow out of your mouth? One liners like, “I’m sick”… “I’m broke”… “I’ll never amount to anything”…”My situation is hopeless”…”My marriage will never work”… do not demonstrate God’s power. Speak God’s Word instead… “I am healed!”… “God is prospering me!”… “I am a child of the King!”…”God is renewing my strength!”… “My marriage is a representation of God’s love for me!” God has a Word for every situation of life. Don’t just think them. Speak them out loud .
The words you speak have power!
Just ask my house…
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Proverbs 4:5 Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them
